 abstract={The subject of the article is a linguistic and literary historical analysis of the proverb "The old woman recalled the evening of the virgins" included in Eliza Orzeszkowa's writings. The first part of the work is devoted to linguistic analysis of the abovementioned proverb. The analysis confirms that its main goal is an expression of emotions associated with awareness of passing of life.},
 abstract={Lexis and phraseology connected with youth, passing away of the time and the old age become the exponent of general truth on the essence of human existence, and the proverb itself should be treated as the expression of passing away experience that reflects eternal and infinite human longing for happiness.},
 abstract={In the second part of the paper the analysis undertakes features and functions of the proverb in Eliza Orzeszkowa's selected works: "Lowlands" ["Niziny"], "By the Niemen" ["Nad Niemnem"] and "Mary Rose" ["Panna Róża"]. On their basis one may infer the process of universalisation of the studied proverb within the works of the authoress. The writer draws the proverb from Belarusian folk, and as the time went by, separated its meaning from the original context, giving the saying universal meaning.},
