TY - GEN A1 - Jagoszewski, Tomasz A1 - Świderska-Bróż, Maria PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - The paper investigates lime-aided conditioning of filter backwash water from groundwater, infiltrated and surface water treatment plants and its influence on the quality of the supernatant. A thorough analysis of contaminatian levels in the supernatant from non-conditioned and lime-conditioned backwash water has been presented. N2 - It has been established that manganese and iron concentrations in the supernatant decreased with the increase of pH value of the backwash water. In the case of backwash water from groundwater treatment the same applied to levels of turbidity and suspended solids concentration. N2 - Lime-aided conditioning of backwash waters containing aluminium compounds caused dissolution of Al(OH)3 to Al(OH)4 and increased aluminium and suspended solids concentratian as well as turbidity of the supernatant and, as a result, proved disadvantageous. Thus, regarding the protection of surface waters, lime conditioning should only be employed to intensify the process of thickening of backwash water from groundwater treatment when the permissible pH value of the supernatant discharged to surface waters is not exceeded.
