 abstract={The article presents the origins and early years of the oldest periodical published in Zielona Góra, the ?Grünberger Wochenblatt? (?Zielona Góra Weekly?). Its inaugural issue appeared on 2 July 1825 on the initiative of Heinrich August Krieg, the founder of the first printing house in the city. Little information has survived about the publisher himself or about his other publishing ventures. The periodical primarily featured short stories, poetry, essays, travel and historical articles, as well as riddles and charades. Its local section initially contained mainly official announcements issued by the authorities, notices of auctions, vital records (births, marriages, and deaths), and classified advertisements. A distinctive characteristic of the newspaper during the first decades of its existence was the absence of both national and local news coverage.It should be noted that, particularly during the period when Krieg served as publisher and editor (1825?1836), the title accurately reflected the newspaper?s weekly frequency of publication. Although its publication frequency increased in later years, the historic title of the Zielona Góra newspaper was retained until 1944. Approximately 90 percent of the newspaper?s surviving issues have been preserved. Most of this collection, held by the Cyprian Norwid Regional and City Public Library in Zielona Góra, is available through the Zielona Góra Digital Library. This corpus constitutes a highly valuable source for media, historical and sociological research.},
