The research was carried out using the technique of compartmentalized interview. The results show that elders are prone to point to big shortcomings of the age they have reached. Individuals rarely expose positive aspects of senility, and their opinions fit the promotion of "active ageing" ideas to a very limited extent.}, abstract={The descriptions of this phase of life created on the basis of utterances of the individuals seem to be partly in accordance with common, stereotypical perceptions of senility, even though the respondents are relatively independent, possess permanent income, are rather satisfied with their health, finances, marriage, previous life, and are very positive about their relationships with immediate family.}, abstract={The cohort mainly undertake social roles of grandparents - protectors of their grandchildren, persons who support financially both their children and grandchildren, and act as advisors. Additionally, they help other elderly people - usually neighbours. The female vision of senility is different than the male one.
