 abstract={An undoubtedly important role in the early post-war management of Żagań county was played by the peasant movement activists. Certainly, the Polish Peasant Movement (Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, PSL) had infinitesimal chances of organizational development, compared with the Peasant Movement Stronnictwo Ludowe, SL), because the Polish Workers' Party (Polska Partia Robotnicza, PPR), considering themselves the only authority in this area, made their best to hamper the operations of Mikołajczyk's Polish Peasant Party.},
 abstract={Indeed, SL was treated instrumentally by PPR, too. The defeat of PSL in the elections stolen by PPR in 1947 figured significantly in the further development of the people's movement: it turned out that having defeated that "centre of independent people's thinking", PPR (later as Polish United Workers' Party- Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza, PZPR) decided to enslave it. In this situation, in November of 1949, the so-called United Peasant Movement Congress (Kongres Jedności Ruchu Ludowego) was convened at which the United Peasant Movement (Zjednoczone Stronnictwo Ludowe, ZSL) was established and which became a rural promoter of PZPR's programme.},
