 abstract={The article discusses three issues of "The Children of Love", which is the lesser-known novel by Sue.Firstly, it focuses on an attempt to adapt the novel to the needs of popular readers, especially thefemale ones, who were not very sophisticated intellectually and, in literature, they were looking forstrong emotions, pathos, and entertainment. Secondly, it suggests that the novel was a really valuableroman a these because it referred to the significant social problem.},
 abstract={Moreover, it went hand in handwith the growing expectations for a social change, which should start with the opinion of peoplewith the most favored class. Sue showed the phenomenon which can safely be called a reflection of"the century`s illness". The immoral protagonist who is approved of by the society despite his sinsbecomes a source of criminogenic behaviors in his environment. Thirdly, Sue created his heroes inopposition to the new cultural trends like Biedermeier or Victorianism. The author did not agreewith such conciliatory and mitigating visions of reality and defied them for extreme pessimism,which he presented in an attractive literary form, for the convenience of the readers.},
