 abstract={In this paper an attempt is made to present language behaviour connected with praying actions excerpted from war notes written by Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. The aim of the paper is to examine the structure and stylistic devices of prayer utterances with reference to prayer as a genre. As a result, two aspects will be discussed, that is, spontaneity versus automatism.},
 abstract={The notes being under investigation comprises a private, individual type of prayer. Although genre rules of set prayer are to be recognized in the texts, the notes usually include only single components of the prayer`s convention. In the linguistic material collected there are mostly prayers which contain one intention (pleading). In these prayers the boundaries between a "sacrum" sphere and a "profanum" sphere are blurred.},
 abstract={The texts are written from a perspective of a layperson and strongly emphasise the autor`s standpoint. This is why, the automatic use of prayer formulas is mixed with spontaneous elements. The former phenomenon is represented by: composition (invocation + pleading), syntax (parallels) and conventional phrases (apostrophes). The latter is represented by colloquial language and creative (poetic) elements.},
