 abstract={Making use of rhetorical methods, the analysis of retro crime novels presents ways of winning over the addressee as well as the novels` persuasive function, exhibiting the domination of the cognitive function over the other functions ? didactic and aesthetic. Among the most important factors, already known to Aristotle, which determine the influence upon the addressee (persuasion), seems to be "identification". The example of retro crime novels is provided mainly by Marcin Wroński`s novels set in Lublin, especially his latest, "Portret wisielca" ("The Portrait of a Hanged Man").},
