PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - The copper industry, located in the Lower Silesia region, has many nega-tive impacts on the natural environment. In surrounding of copper ore tailings impoundment the main problem is chemical degradation of soils. Decennary monitoring results presented in the publication show that im-poundment is no longer a source of the soil pollution with heavy metals. N2 - The higher concentration of heavy metals presently identified in monitoring sites confirms that greatest pollution took place in the initial phase of tailings impoundment exploitation, when no technology of tailings stabili-zation was applied. Decreasing trends of heavy metal contamination (copper, zinc and cadmium) in examined soils improve that applicated these days technology of tailings stabilization effectively reduce negative impacts of the tailings impoundment on the environment.
