PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - The article is a brief presentation of a thorough and exhaustive study of the reception of EugeneSue in Britain in the middle of the nineteenth century. "Mysterymania. The Reception of Eugene Suein Britain 1838-1860" by Berry Palmer Chevasco advances the thesis that despite a generally criticalattitude of the British literary establishment towards the French writer, his prose may have hada more significant impact on British writers than has been recognized. N2 - The article presents onlya sample of the evidence provided by the author of "Mysterymania", by listing some of the Britishwriters and their books which, as Chevasco argues, show affinities with Sue`s works. The presenttext seeks to familiarize Polish readers with the current state of research into the cultural dialoguebetween France and Victorian Britain and the role Sue may have played in the development of theBritish fiction of the period.
