 abstract={The word "rite" once inextricably linked to the sacred, does not refer only to the past. Ritual behavior is still with us today. It is not only associated with festive occasions or religious practices, but also with the passage from one stage of life to another, or with the assumption of new social roles. The way these rituals are celebrated, which has changed over the centuries, is itself a research field.},
 abstract={This article is an attempt to look at the issue of entering adulthood through two rites of passage: the 18th birthday celebration and the "matura" examination. In the search for a theoretical conceptualization, the concepts of researchers such as Arnold van Genepp, Turner and Pierre Bourdieu are briefly discussed. The paper attempts to answer the following questions: do contemporary rites of passage into adulthood fit into this type of activity? Is it possible to find a theoretical construct for their description that goes beyond classical descriptions? Are these rites of passage meaningful to the participants?},
