School burnout encompasses three dimensions: exhaustion caused by school duties, cynical and indifferent attitudes toward school, and feelings of inadequacy, and has numerous negative consequences, such as depression and suicidal tendencies, among others. Risk factors include the type of school, negative school climate, lack of social support, and excessive demands and interpersonal conflicts. Protective against burnout are certain personality traits, such as low levels of neuroticism, high levels of extraversion and conscientiousness, and social-emotional resources.
