@misc{Żuraszek-Ryś_Iwona_Między, author={Żuraszek-Ryś, Iwona}, howpublished={online}, publisher={Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego}, language={pol}, abstract={This present paper is the result of reflection on the lexical layer of the Balkan novels by Teodor Tomasz Jeż, separated from a group of twelve works consisting of artistic texts with similar themes and belonging to the same genre, thus representing similar linguistic-stylistic patterns: "Szandor Kowacz", "Asan", "Uskoki", "Narzeczona harambaszy", "Dachijszczyzna", "Zarnica", "Słowiański hercog", "Rotułowicze", "Lat temu dwieście", "W zaraniu", "Miłość w opałach" and "Rycerz chrześcijański".}, abstract={The abundance of works left behind by the writer conrinced us to wonder, what kind of vocabulary he used in the examined texts, whether there are noticeable transformations in its use in subsequent works, and whether it is possible to determine the author`s preferences in its selection. Capturing the stability and variability of the vocabulary of T.T. Jeż`s novels, in the light of the general characteristics of the collection and individual works, was possible using statistical lexical research and the linguistic field method. The work essentially consists of three parts.}, abstract={The first one presents the material background of the work and its methodological characteristics, as well as information needed to understand the issue discussed in this thesis. It is impossible to analyze the linguistic structure of the text without at least sketching general cultural references. Therefore, the author`s biography is presented, taking into account the circumstances that influenced the creation of the analyzed novels, i.e. the writer`s personal experiences while traveling in the Balkans.}, abstract={Attention was also paid to its place in the tradition of the Polish historical novel and its contribution to the development of the genre. The last fragment of the first part is devoted to Oriental and South Slavic themes present in T.T. Jeż`s creative achievements other than fiction.}, abstract={The second part consists of analyzes of the lexis from individual South Slavic novels from a contrasting perspective. Based on the data obtained based on quantitative characteristics, it was found that the "Szandor Kowacz" work, which begins the cycle of South Slavic novels, is characterized in many respects (dictionary size, including percentage; average frequency of entries; quantitative richness and originality of vocabulary) with better parameters than those compared with him texts. It is also characterized by a significant number of rare lexemes.}, abstract={These results are justified by the development of T.T. Jeż`s writing skills, as well as the theme of the novel. Due to the fact that this is T.T. Jeż`s first work with a Balkan theme (despite some doubts related to it), the writer`s work on this text was not subject to such text-creating, automatic operations as in the case of subsequent novels. The research also showed (the size of the dictionary, the quantitative richness of vocabulary, text concentration) that the "W zaraniu" work is characterized by low vocabulary richness and less diversity of lexis in relation to the compared texts. This novel is also characterized by a higher percentage of verbs than nouns in the text and the highest saturation of pronouns among the analyzed texts.}, abstract={Moreover, it was noticed that most of the analyzed novels (8 out of 12) fall within the concentration limits typical of written texts. However, the high value of this indicator indicates that these works are similar to spoken language texts, confirming the story-telling nature of their author. The story-telling nature of T.T. Jeż`s utterances is also evidenced by the formulaic use of numerals (the use of the numeral one in the sense of "certain", typical of spoken texts). The last fragment of the second part concerned the comparison of the results achieved with the data obtained by S. Borawski in the field of letters.}, abstract={This comparison was intended to demonstrate whether the lexis of T.T. Jeż used for artistic purposes is the same as the vocabulary used in private correspondence, or maybe it differs from it, to what extent it constitutes the cross-genre center of the writer`s idiolect, and to what extent it is conditioned by the adopted genre pattern. Despite the differences observed (differences in the use of explicit vocabulary, especially adjectives, adverbs, nouns and verbs, resulting from the different nature of the utterances), it could be noticed that the vocabulary used by Jeż for artistic purposes did not differ dramatically from the vocabulary used in private correspondence between the writer and Julian Łukaszewski.}, abstract={This should probably be explained by the fact that both genres concern the written variety. Moreover, in the case of fiction, only the most common vocabulary was examined, i.e. the category characterized by high repetition of vocabulary. The third part was devoted to the characteristics of selected lexical groups: existential lexis and Turkishisms. The analysis showed that when writing subsequent novels, T.T. Jeż not only used a specific vocabulary, but also modified it, introducing new lexical units. In each of the novels we will find hapax legomenon.}, abstract={The following languages are most saturated with very rare vocabulary: "Rycerz chrześcijański", "Asan" and "Dachijszczyzna". In the case of the first work, this is motivated by its length, and in the case of the remaining two: by a specific topic ("Asan" is a kind of manifesto in which the author`s beliefs about the soon-to-be uprising are articulated) and by specific linguistic stylistic choices ("Dachijszczyzna" is considered one of the best works in T.T. Jeż`s oeuvre). The paper concludes with a bibliography, which includes: a list of - primary sources - the analyzed novels by T.T. Jeż, list of literature and explanations of abbreviations relating to the publications used.}, type={książka}, title={Między oryginalnością a konwencją}, keywords={Jeż, Teodor Tomasz (1824-1915), idiolekt, literatura polska, powieść, słownictwo, tematy i motywy, kraje bałkańskie, Polish literature, novel, vocabulary, themes and motifs}, }
