 abstract={The monograph is the result of long-term research into the complex nature of the sexual abuse of minors by clergy within the Polish Catholic Church. The principal aim of the work is to characterise the legal and social conditions underlying this problem, which stem from the distinctive legal status of the Church in Poland and from the fact that a clergyman who perpetrates sexual violence is simultaneously subject to two legal orders - that of the state and canon law.},
 abstract={Structured thematically, the book comprises five chapters. The first examines the cultural and political determinants of the Church`s position in Poland, tracing the historical roots of its authority as a guardian of national identity. The second presents the legal and psychological dimensions of paedophilia, including criminal and civil definitions and the consequences of victims` trauma. The third analyses the attitudes of the clergy toward paedophilia offences between 2012 and 2022, contrasting the declarations of the Polish Bishops` Conference with actual practice. The fourth investigates how media coverage varied according to outlets` ideological profiles. The fifth discusses secular foundations, organisations, and social initiatives supporting victims.},
 abstract={The author tests five hypotheses, demonstrating among other things that the imprecise provisions of the 1993 Concordat facilitated the practice of not reporting offences to law enforcement, that the prolonged lack of victim protection violated Article 30 of the Polish Constitution, and that the media, rather than the hierarchy, systematically expanded knowledge of the scale of abuse. The work also highlights the role of Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz and calls for an independent, secular commission and reform of state-Church relations.},
