 abstract={The library in Czerwieńsk, Zielona Góra District was an only institution that made books available to the local community at the time it was established in 1949. The book collection, having been politicized by the Polish United Workers? Party, has made people above 20 years of age increas- ingly reluctant to use it. As a result, it was announced in April of 1956 that the number of active members was 129 people.},
 abstract={The choice of topics of their books was the same as in other parts of the country. It was dominated by native or foreign 19th century classics written by: Bolesław Prus, Maria Konopnicka, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, Adam Mickiewicz, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Stefan Żeromski, Hans Christian Andersen, as well as Lew Tołstoj and Iwan Turgieniew. Readers made themselves familiar with works of an American writer Theorore Dreiser, both Russian and Soviet writer Anatol Winogradow and Michał Szołochow.},
 abstract={The school-propagand system probably forced the people to read the Polish contemporary literature in the library, written by, for example, Tadeusz Konwicki, which reflected the norms of socialist realism. They were, however, not recognised among older audiences, who also avoided socio-scientific, agricultural and technical publications.},
