Abstract:
The following article discusses the role of organizations aiding and supplementing the activities of the Civic Militia (MO, abbreviated from Milicja Obywatelska). It describes both the organizedforms of MO's support (the Civic Guard, the Voluntary Reserve of the Civic Militia) and an effort has been made to depict the means and methods of using secret collaborators by the MO and the effects of their work, which, as to this moment, have remained not-so-well recognised. ; The mediocre effects that MO had in terms of criminal offense pursuit and the defense of thepublic order was only mildly improved by the activity of organizations supporting the militia.The functioning of the Civic Guard was by and large symbolical. What is interesting, when the central government created a formation using the same name, the Civic Guard operating on the territories of Zielona Góra county was already ending its short period of functioning. ; ORMO (abbreviated from "Ochotnicza Rezerwa Milicji Obywatelskiej", the Polish term forthe Votumary Reservc of the Civic Militia), which was the basic source supplementing the ranks of MO, had also not granted a significant improvement of safety. Cooperation with secret collaborators looked even worse. Constant use of innovations implemented by the security apparatus, the incompetence of officers regarding this aspect of service and a general aversiontowards cooperation with MO resulted in the lack of visible effects of collaboration.
