Jan Paweł II ujmuje naród podobnie jak rodzinę jako naturalną wspólnotę pomyślaną w stwórczym akcie Boga jako potrzebną dla harmonijnego rozwoju osoby ludzkiej. Zadanie to naród polski spełnia za sprawą swojej tysiącletniej chrześcijańskiej kultury. ; Jan Paweł II podkreślił znaczenie Kościoła dla kultury polskiej, po pierwsze jako instytucji, która w czasie trudnym dla narodu polskiego (rozbiory, okupacja) pomogła przetrwać wspólnocie, zachować jej swoją tożsamość, po drugie jako "pośrednika", dzięki któremu naród polski miał dostęp do najwyższych osiągnięć zachodniej kultury. ; Nade wszystko jednak zaakcentował wymiar duchowy: "Kościół przyniósł Polsce Chrystusa", tj. klucz "do zrozumienia człowieka". Na bazie tej prawdy rozwijają się uniwersalne osiągnięcia kultury polskiej: tolerancja religijna, unijna polityka zagraniczna, arcydzieła architektury, sztuki i literatury. Wszystko to wyrasta w kulturze, której "korzeniem jest Chrystus".
Abstract:
John Paul II captures the nation, just like the family, as a natural community conceived in the creative act of God which is needed for the harmonious development of the human person. The Polish nation has fulfilled this task competently through its thousand-year-old Christian culture. ; John Paul II emphasized the importance of the Church for the Polish culture, firstly as an institution which, in difficult times for the Polish nation (such as the partitions of Poland and the occupation of Poland during World War II) helped the community to survive, preserve its identity, and secondly, as an "intermediary" which provided access to the greatest achievements of the Western culture. ; But above all, he emphasized the spiritual dimension: the Church brought Christ to Poland as the key to understand the man. On the basis of this truth, the universal achievements of the Polish culture, such as religious tolerance, union ideals in politics, masterpieces of architecture, art and literature, are developing. All of this is rooted in the culture that itself is "rooted in Christ".
