Over time, Oriana Fallaci increasingly referred to her books as "paper children". This anthropomorphism gradually grew in strength, becoming a subliminal explanation of her choices. Not having tasted parenting herself, Fallaci could only watch it from the outside, trying to legitimize its full understanding through a creative act. She talked about her own parents with delight: she presented them as exceptional people and herself as a dedicated daughter. ; That relationship was to her what she called a "total relationship", one that unlike marriage, simultaneously guaranteed proximity, understanding and freedom. Her sisters, on the other hand, were mentioned less and less frequently, until they were completely omitted from the family tree attached to "Un cappello pieno di ciliege" ("A Hat Full of Cherries", 2008), where she became the only daughter of Tosca and Edoardo. ; Owing to the strong autobiographical component, Oriana Fallaci`s work provides valuable research material on both mother-daughter and father-daughter bonds. Her reportage novel, "Se il Sole muore" ("If the Sun Dies", 1965), concerning the American space projects: Gemini and Apollo, and dedicated among others to her parents, is a particularly interesting example of this subject.
