Skobelski, Robert (1968- ) - red.
It is not only the causes of the protests of 17 June 1953, which took place in the German Democratic Republic, but also commemoration of those events over the space of the last 60 years that varied greatly. Those events have been written on a permanent basis into not only the German politics, but the German memory as well, becoming a subject of political discussions. ; Both in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, the "June 1953" events and remembrances of them were treated instrumentally, the expression of which were celebrations dedicated to the "Day of German Unity", embedding plaques and erecting monuments in the FRG, as well as the extraordinary readiness to prevent a potential counterrevolution in the GDR, and also "erasing" the date from the memory by the East-German dissentients. Also, after the Union, it was not possible for a long time to reach an agreement regarding the proper manner of celebrating the anniversary of the East-German workers? revolt.
