Abstract:
The author wishes to focus on how ethnonymic stereotypes of the Czech and the Pole are strengthened in literature and the movies (also in advertising, songs and within phraseological and idiomatic expressions). He focuses on the mass arts, where one can find issues related to cultural anthropology, linguistics and the historical and cultural realities, which belong to the sphere of humanities and social sciences. ; The author considers both autostereotype as well as heterostereotype, which make up the linguistic and symbolic world of every nation. We will see that the presented names, phrases and expressions with a clearly marked component of "nationality" will be treated by modern linguistics as an exponent of a stereotype that is firmly embedded in the cultural and linguistic code. Some excerpted examples will evoke both positive and negative associations; they can also elicit neutral connotations.
