The population of Zielona Gora in the years 1945-2003 continually increased. This was the result of 1) expansion of the area of the city from 32 ha to 52.32 ha, 2) the natural growth, especially at the turn of the 1950s/1960s and 1970s/1980s. as well as 3) a positive balance of migration, especially important in the first post-war period and in the 1970s. The population of the city grew from 15.7 thousand in 1946 to 118.7 thousand in 2003. ; In the following years it slowly decreased and in 2010 it amounted to 117.7 thousand persons. The population change forecasts of the Central Statistical Office in Zielona Gora are not optimistic and assume a further decline in the number of inhabitants in the year 2020 to 116,3 thousand and in the year 2035 to 112 thousand. ; The changes of the population were accompanied by significant changes that influenced the cities attractiveness, especially for the incoming people: the development of the housing construction, which was difficult and unsatisfactory up until the 1970 and much more favorable in the following years as well as the development of the infrastructure ? the expansion of the water supply systems, sewer systems and gas mains.
