Bells, being movable monuments, relatively often change their location. Many of them have scant documentation. Any information including their looks or a description of their inscriptions is, therefore, of great value. ; Over the course of history, the bells' role continuously changed. While in the Middle Ages they were an indispensable element of town landscape, setting the pace to town life and announcing historic news, then in XIX c. their importance clearly declined. In early XX c. they were among the victims of World War I: the German Ministry of War's regulation ordered the confiscation of all bronze bells for the needs of the armaments industry. They were transported to Hamburg, where most of them saw the end of not only World War I but World War II as well. Fortunately for historians, their inventory had been made and the documentation is now kept in Glockenarchiv in Nuremberg. ; This paper presents a list of Zielona Góra's bells, along with their inscriptions, the information on which can be found in Nuremberg's archive.
