Abstract:

The idea of Kurdish nationalism was typical of the political situation at the turn of the 20th century in both Europe and the Middle East. The slow fall of the monarchic system together with the growing weakness of the Ottoman Turkey, favoured the national aspiration of numerous, marginal at that time societies. ; The majority of characteristic features ascribed by theoreticians was confirmed in the case of Kurdish nationalism. The belief in the persistence of Kurdish identity rooted in the history as well as the belief in the right to autonomy in the historical area of the Kurds, are present in the Kurdish consciousness even today and these feeling are not fading our, but they seem to be growing. ; This phenomenon is visible in the case of the Kurdish Autonomy situation in Iraq, following the fall of Saddam Hussein. Therefore, the idea of Kurdish nationalism in Turkey, in the borderland of Turkey, Syria, Iraq as well as in the Iran-Iraq border shall be present in the 21 century as well, since the idea of Kurdish nationalism represented by various, often non-cooperative communities is still alive.
