The political situation in Poland was very difficult after the January Revolt (1863) and it was the reason that the nation was in need to have a writer who would lead their souls, who would point out the ideas, the ways of living after the time of the romantic writers. ; Henryk Sienkiewicz was the writer who fullfilled the nation expectations becouse of the art and ideas of his Works. He became very popular very soon and the readers liked him very much. It was the reason why his Works were found on the list of the school literature very soon after their fist publishing. Most often his Works were the subjects of the literary analysis in Galicia, his Works were also discussed on territories annexed by Russia (mostly in private schools) and on territories annexed by Prussia (in self-learning groups). ; Before 1918 there were 26 Works of Henryk Sienkiewicz on the list of recommended titles for schools and next 10 were partly published in the Polish Language School Book. His works were the subjects of pupils compositions and pass exams, fragments of them were used as examples of the different declarations written in a really beautifull polish literal language but first of all his Works educated the young people in the patriotic spirit. In existing diaries of pupils we can find out that the role of Sienkiewicz's Works war very important in their lifes.
