Abstract:
The main objective of the article is to draw attention to the selected issues for the discussion on the future of sociology in the context of three phenomena: (1) its popularization as a field of study, (2) the implementation of three-cycle sociological studies, in particular first-cycle studies as higher vocational training courses, and (3) potential employment opportunities for sociology graduates on the growing market for social research. ; The first part of the article includes a diagnosis of the situation faced by sociology in Poland at the beginning of the 21st century. The change in the nature of social studies from the elite to the popular ones, "commercialization" of academic staff and its multiemployment, transformation of university curricula and developing it according to National Qualifications Framework marked the clear beginning of changes within sociology. ; The other part of the article shows one of the possible directions of the development of applied sociology, taking into account changes on the educational and labour market. It discusses the demand for social research, including evaluation studies.
