The problems related to the impact of electromagnetic field (EMF) on biological environment and electromedical apparatus implanted in the human body (as the identification element of new risk factors) have been for decades the subject of research carried out by the scientists of various specialisations, both in Poland and abroad. We observe a great social request to present the data on impact of artificially generated electromagnetic fields (e.g. from the cellular telephony antennas) on the electro-implants used in medicine. ; This paper covers the area of public perception of EMF field impact on a pacemaker, on the example of patients involved in the experimental research related to the impact of EMF generated by the base station antenna on a pacemaker, which was carried out in the Central Clinical Hospital in Warsaw. The experience gained from the study of patients can be summarized in the following groups of concern: ; (1) The impact of artificially generated electromagnetic fields on human health and the operation of pacemakers is an important issue not only for patients using the devices, but for their families, too. The patients and their families are suspicious and negative about tests and examinations involving non-medical equipment (e.g. base station antennas). Family members are often actively involved in the process of making a decision whether the patients are about to take a part in such research. It is very important to provide reliable, accurate and complete information to family members; ; (2) The need of contact and effective information exchange between the patients and people responsible for technical support during the examination (e.g. base station antenna operators), the need to verify the information concerning the equipment or communication problems (e.g. professional technical language); this indicates the need of developing and applying communication standards between the patient and technicians; ; (3) Information coming from mass-media is often presented in a barely understandable professional language, which causes serious interferences in the perception of problems; on the other hand, patients are exposed to the information that is not fully verified or applies only to selected aspects of EMF influence on human health or a pacemaker operation (e.g. private websites); this can lead to the creation of false opinions and negative attitude of patients.
