The theme of the article is the reception of Eugene Sue`s writing in the era of positivism. Boleslaw Prus and Eliza Orzeszkowa`s critical statements and selected literary have been the focus of theresearch. The relationships between Orzeszkowa`s "Sylwek Cmentarnik" and Sue`s "Children of Love" have been thoroughly discussed. ; The research indicates the presence of various forms of creativity in Sue`s writing in the second half of the nineteenth century, ranging from small, often ironic allusion, to thematic and ideological correspondences. Additionally, the research evidences the original reconstruction of Sue`s "roman a these" by positivist writers of poetics and the significance of his urban novels not only in the nineteenth century but also today.
